Located south of Cancun, the Riviera Maya is a huge tourism resort district in Mexico. It connects the coastal Fed 307 along the Caribbean coastline of the state of Quintana Roo, in the eastern portion of the Yucatán Peninsula. Originally called the “Cancun–Tulum corridor”, this exotic location was later renamed the Riviera Maya in the year 1991 thanks to Miguel Ramón Martín Azueta. Who at the time happened to be the municipal president of Solidaridad, Quintana Roo.

Throughout history, this district emanated from the city of Playa del Carmen right up to the village Tulum. It is bordered to the north by the town of Puerto Morelos as well as Felipe Carrillo Puerto which is some 40km south of Tulum. These towns are currently being promoted as part of the Riviera Maya tourist corridor.

Blessed with miles of white beautiful sand beaches, crystal blue waters, mystical Mayan ruins, and is widely regarded as the second largest reef system in the world. With all of these attributes, it is without a doubt that the Playa del Carmen and the Mayan Riviera is now a top destination for vacationers and tourists from all across the globe. This attributes, of course, haven’t gone unnoticed as Savvy investors have taken note, thereby making this region a hot spot for international real estate Buyers.

Famous for its large scale all-inclusive resorts, the Riviera Maya is home to a historical tourism base which comprises of small boutique hotels a lot of fine-dining restaurants available near its beaches. A key factor to the growing popularity of the Riviera Maya has been the increasing luxury villa rentals and yacht charters although these only represent a small fraction of the total tourism accommodation available.

The coastal and reef aquatic activities of the Riviera Maya are solely dependent on the coastal water and the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System which begins near Cancun and continues along the whole length of the Riviera Maya continuing southward Guatemala.

Coupled with the beauty and splendor that comes with such a beautiful and iconic location, it is no surprise as to the immense growth in the real estate industry. Tourist, locals, and foreigners are flooding the Riviera Maya each year all in a bid to get a fair share of what this iconic location has to offer. With condos and luxury homes aplenty to suit any budget, the people of this town are very welcoming and fun to be with.

What makes this location unique and the reason why it is a huge stomping ground for locals and tourist alike includes:

  • Jet-skiing
  • Snorkeling
  • Scuba Diving
  • Swimming with Dolphins
  • Zip-lining
  • Horse Riding
  • Sailing and
  • Guided Jungle Tours

In addition, Archeology in the area is also a big tourist draw thanks to the inception of the popular archeological sites operated by the Instituto Nacional de Archeological such as Tulum on the coast, and Chichen Itza and Coba located some distance inland. These natural water theme parks are run by private business consortia which in effect attracts larger crowds due to the diversity and its range of activities provided which include swimming with captive dolphins.

Conclusively, if your ideal vacation includes exploring lost civilizations, hiking through jungle-shrouded trails or simply relaxing on a quiet beach, then an all-inclusive Riviera Maya vacation package is just the thing for you!  However, if you’d rather enjoy a more relaxed vacation, a Riviera Maya all-inclusive vacation also offers plenty of food, shopping, and fun for everyone!
